Sunshower Design Jewelry was born in the spring of 2008 during a period of transition and part-time employment. Owner and designer Karel Chan was living in New Jersey briefly, between the vastly opposite and yet equally artistic New York City and Portland, Oregon, and was drawn in by the freedom and creativity in jewelry-making. Having always been a creator, this seemed like a natural progression for her. The entrepreneurial side of things came a bit later, but she had long had an eye for aesthetics in marketing and was interested in giving it a try. (And another try... and another try.) And so her jewelry line was born!

Karel's design philosophy is: try something new! Experiment, tweak, and don't be afraid to scrap it all and start from scratch. There are no rules in creation, especially when you work with and for yourself!

Aside from jewelry, Karel is passionate about stationery, clearance sales, cooking, Peet's Jasmine Lime Tea Coolers, helping shape kids' psychoemotional development, and learning to cope with her late twenties.

She currently resides in Portland, Oregon and is pursuing a Masters in School Counseling at Portland State University.
